Deciding whether to rent or buy temporary fencing?

To rent or not to rent, that is the question. Brent Newburg, Operations Manager for Fast Fence Inc. explains how many customers prefer to rent temporary fencing vs. buying and maintaining their own inventories:

“Our rental customers would rather focus their crews on the job at hand, rather than taking time to transport, install and dismantle their own panels. Fast Fence offers a full-service rental solution: We deliver, we install, we dismantle and we take the fence away at the end of the project. This allows our customers to concentrate on what they do best. Other customers prefer to manage their own inventory, so we always have a variety of fencing options available for purchase.”

CONSIDERATIONS:

  • Availability of cash – purchasing fencing requires an up-front investment, whereas rental costs are spread over the length of the project and can be billed back to your clients on a project-by-project basis.
  • Length of project – for short projects, many contractors prefer to outsource the service, but for a long project spanning years, purchasing fence may be more sensible.
  • Frequency of use – is this just a one-time job or do you anticipate using the fence again and again?
  • Ability to manage inventory – do you have the resources to manage an inventory, storage capability, ability to safely transport fencing and crews to set-up?
